I was watching his show this a.m., before the exciting & fruitful live blogging road trip, & I can't agree more with Mr. Wolcott's analysis. I was particularly offended with how Imus, Charles, Bernard, & that little twerp who plays the music were making bad fun of Stevie Wonder. Were any of these dickheads ever, ever in a position where this kind of behavior was treated as it should be, by vocal & physical revulsion? Or by having their sorry asses fired? I doubt it. What I'd like to know is why Imus never went to prison for his claimed addiction to coccaine & alcohol, I mean he gleefully admits to pissing in a telephone booth. & I, too, wonder why Frank Rich continues to appear on the show, or Chris Dodd? I watch Imus because there's not much else on that early in the a.m. here in the Midwest. Maybe there's a dog show on the Animal Planet. Tomorrow, I'll check. One more thing about this morning, after so many years of Clinton bashing, the repeated playing of Ray Charles ("Tell your momma, tell your pa, Gonna move you back to Arkansas."), the anti-Clinton bumper sticker placed in full view of the cameras on the old set, etc., yet today Imus is full of praise for the ex-president. I suppose just so he could make fun of Hilary. Yup, Imus is a dickhead.
"Yes, it is a bit much for Don Imus to have a sudden attack of Emily Post and start grouching about the political comments chestily flown at Coretta Scott King's funeral service in the presence of President Bush and his lovely wife Rita. Racial enlightment has never been a shining hallmark of the Imus show, from the verbal blackface of their Sambo caricatures of black celebrities to Sid Rosenberg's infamous dig at the Williams sisters to Imus's own use of the 'n' word, which he first denied, then admitted sheepishly, as if he had been caught making a naughty.* The white elitist media-fraternity racism of the show is matched only by its bullyboy hazing of women, particularly the unfortunate female broadcasters from Janice Dean to Contessa Brewer who have had to put up with the jeering innuendos of Imus's over-the-hill gang"
