Bad Thinking/Worse Politics

The right-wing nutjobs over at Free-Market News Network, the name says all you'll need to know, dug up some goofball Russian scientist, Habibullo Abdussamatov, who claims that Mars is also experiencing a climate warming & we can blame it all on radiation from the sun. What the free-marketeers fail to mention is that the aforementioned Russian has been isolated by the majority of the scientific community. Media Matters For America has the goods.
After explaining Abdussamatov's theory, the article reported that the theory has "not been well received by other climate scientists." The article first quoted "Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England's Oxford University" saying that Abdussamatov's "views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion" and that they "contradict the extensive evidence presented in the most recent IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] report." The article added that "[t]he conventional theory is that climate changes on Mars can be explained primarily by small alterations in the planet's orbit and tilt, not by changes in the sun" and that "most scientists think it is pure coincidence that both planets are between ice ages right now."

Finally, the article reported that "the biggest stumbling block in Abdussamatov's theory is his dismissal of the greenhouse effect," and quoted Amato Evan, a climate scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, who said that "without the greenhouse effect there would be very little, if any, life on Earth, since our planet would pretty much be a big ball of ice."

Emphasis added.

This really isn't all that hard to figure out, and you should read a bit more carefully, before you discredit your own intelligence by throwing rocks at "right wing nut jobs".

Craig, Craig, Craig, quit trying to make/continue a controversy where there no longer is one. The facts are in & global warming is a fact & it has been the result of human activity. Really, man, the solutions to this problem will only benefit everyone in the world, ao quit worrying & join the rest of us in trying to something about it.

The UN report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was published in February. At the time it was promoted as being backed by more than 2,000 of the world's leading scientists.
But Professor Paul Reiter, of the Pasteur Institute in Paris, said it was a "sham" given that this list included the names of scientists who disagreed with its findings. Furthermore, of the 2000 listed, only about 100 were experts qualified to be "authorities" on the subject matter. If you want to talk "numbers of scientists", there are over 17000 who have signed their names to a petition disclaiming allegiance to the global warming hype and agenda.

Professor Reiter, an expert in malaria, said his name was removed from an assessment only when he threatened legal action against the panel.
"That is how they make it seem that all the top scientists are agreed," he said. "It's not true."
Truth be told, the UN IPCC was nothing but a politicized group encounter session run by a trained "facilitator" using the "Tavistock method" or "Alinsky approach" perfected in Russian and Korean reeducation camps. The "outcome" was determined in advance. This is not planetary or climatic science at all. It is a sinister mutated form of political and behavioral science. Wake up and get out of your little isolated bubble.

Global Warming 101:

If ALL of the ice in the Arctic Ocean (that INCLUDES the North Pole) were to melt, the ocean level would not go up one millimeter.
We can talk about Antarctica, too. I already crunched the numbers.

Numbers may not be all that you have crunched CL. RLK

Media Matters (deliberately or ignorantly) misquoted Abdussamatov, whose point was that another "greenhouse gas", water vapor, has an effect that automatically stabilizes and counteracts any rise in temperature that MIGHT theoretically be caused by rising CO2 levels (IF indeed rising CO2 levels really CAUSE rising temperatures). It has been shown that the present warming trend PRECEDED rising CO2 by about 800 years.
To say that it "is pure coincidence that both planets are between ice ages right now" is disingenuous at best. Both planets were hit by the same catastrophe about 4700 years ago, resulting in "ice ages".

Although planetary tilt can have an effect on temperatures, the Catastrophe had nothing to do with planetary tilt in either case (Earth or Mars).

To clarify that last statement: planetary tilt didn't cause the Catastrophe that initiated the Ice Age. Rather, the Catastrophe[[massive amounts of ice and snow from a huge ice comet being drawn electrostatically to the polar regions and knocking the earth's (and Mars') rotation out of kilter, just as a gyroscope is knocked out of kilter by similar forces]] caused planetary tilt. The date of the catastrophe can be acquired by reviewing the history of the earth's rotational restabilization (you look at where the axis was pointing, and when). CO2 levels on Earth before the Catastrophe were double what they are now, and dropped after the Catastrophe because of absorption of CO2 by cold sea water (and permanent reduction in plant biomass.)
