What Ever Happened To...

Iraq? Following Atrios, here is a roundup of today's Iraq news. Remember Iraq?
A suicide bomber detonated a belt of explosives near a highly revered Shiite shrine in southern Iraq Thursday, killing at least 35 people and injuring 122, an official said.

Three American soldiers were killed Wednesday in the Sunni insurgent area west of Baghdad, and Iraqi officials said that about 1,500 people died violently last month in the capital - many shot execution-style by sectarian death squads.

The all-party defence committee said the soldiers needed more helicopters and better-protected patrol vehicles to shield them from roadside bombs.
