& finally married. But, but, but, what will this do to my marriage? I will tell you the truth: absolutely nothing. Congratulations to Ms. Martin & Ms. Lyon. Many happy returns & many years of married bliss. We are making progress, albeit slowly, in this land of the free, sort of.

The Gay In The Airport Terminal Bathroom
I'm with Atrios in that why don't these closeted gay ReThugs just come the hell out of the closet? Why conform to the worst of the stereotypes that the right wing throws at gay & lesbian citizens? When people in power aren't comfortable in their skins, the whole country suffers. When will this guy grow up & just be an admitted self-hating gay man?
Craig said in a statement issued by his office that he was not involved in any inappropriate conduct.& if you believe that bullshit, well, I have lots of stuff to sell.
"At the time of this incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions," he said. "I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously."
UPDATE:
Poor Larry, it appears the Mormon has abandoned him. I thought the sacred underwear meant never having to say you're not good enough to endorse me. Go figure.

Check The Temperature In Hell
Alan K. Simpson, retired ReThug Senator from Darth Cheney's Wyoming, writes in today's Washington Post some important & intelligent words in an op/ed. Good for the Senator, I'm happy that he understands what most ReThugs cannot.
Emphasis added. The only caveat I have about Simpsons' piece is that this odious rule/practice ought not be deep-sixed because of this bogus war on terror. It ought to be dispensed with because it is a reprehensible idea.

Small Victories
Wimbledon.
I'm surprised that they didn't term is ""catted" campaigning."
Rhode Island does the least it can do for human rights.
Female tennis stars hailed Thursday's announcement that women would receive the same prize money as men at this year's Wimbledon tennis championships after years of dogged campaigning.
Rhode Island does the least it can do for human rights.
The state of Rhode Island should recognize the gay marriages of state employees performed in Massachusetts and extend the same benefits, Attorney General Patrick Lynch said in a letter to a state department.
”Rhode Island will recognize same sex marriages lawfully performed in Massachusetts as marriages in Rhode Island,” Lynch said in a letter dated Tuesday and released Wednesday.

Too Bad
I don't live in the state of Washington, but this is an initiative I could really support.
Proponents of same-sex marriage have introduced an initiative that would put a whole new twist on traditional unions between men and women: It would require heterosexual couples to have children within three years or else have their marriages annulled.
I mean, after all, if they don't have children after three years, they are probably using some of that evil birth control. Or else they are, oh, just forget it.

Super Sunday
I'm sitting here on a below zero cold Super Sunday. I don't want the Bears to win, I'm a Packer fan after all & we are genetically predisposed to hate the Bears, & of course, the Vikings. But after reading about Tony Dungy's unfortunate support for a truly bigoted anti-gay organization, puts a damper on my support of the Colts. This report is via commplacebook.com. I mean, Johnny Unitas & Earl Morrell for Christ's sake. & the Colts are already down 7-0.

Sen. Brownback Is A Brown Shirt
This sort of bullshit is what is really wrong with America. Brownback ought to recuse himself from the human race.

Understanding
South Africa gets it. It seems that the bigotry that once defined South Africa may be gone forever. It's too bad the bigots in Wisco, & America, don't get it at all. These Wisco bigots ought to reread, if they have forgotten, the horrors of American slavery. It probably wouldn't matter to them.

Stolen
I have stolen Athenae's complete post. I hope the bigots in Ashland County, WI, are proud of themselves.
Immoral Values
All you've done is deny people health insurance.
Its two largest cities, Dane County and six school and technical college districts offer health insurance and family leave benefits for domestic partners, according to Action Wisconsin, a gay rights group.
"One of the first things we'll see is a challenge to domestic partner benefits offered by public employers in this state," said Josh Freker, a spokesman for Fair Wisconsin, which opposed the amendment.
The University of Wisconsin System, which has sought domestic partner benefits to help it recruit and retain employees, may have also been dealt a setback in its effort to secure them from lawmakers, Freker said.
Madison City Attorney Michael May concluded in a legal analysis last year that "a number of benefits that flow to unmarried domestic partners" under city policies likely would be declared void if the amendment passed. The legal counsel for Dane County reached a similar conclusion.
And while we're on the topic, honest to fucking God. Way to make my entire home state look like a bunch of stupid hicks. From a purely selfish straight-girl standpoint, way to make it that much harder for me to defend you to my Illinois friends who already think you're a bunch of backwoods, cheese-eating, deer-shooting, pelt-wearing drunks too dumb to live somewhere sensible where it doesn't snow two feet in October. Way to help me out there. Crackheads. If I didn't love you so much, if you weren't assuredly my people and home to everything I really love, I'd pull an Atrios and declare a boycott.
But there's too much about you to admire for that:
We transformed this so-called wedge issue into an issue that united Wisconsinites of all backrounds. We have made equality and fairness for gay Wisconsinites something that is embraced by many organizations, leaders, and average citizens.
Thank you to the thousands of gay and lesbian people who did not ask for this fight, who did not want to become poster children. You chose to interrupt your lives so that one day our children will know a world without discrimination.
You bravely stepped up to put your lives on display.
Thank you to all of you who like me aren’t gay but made this issue your own. Thousands of you refused to stand by silently while your friends, families, and citizens we will never meet were attacked with this amendment.
Together, all of us stood shoulder to shoulder—grandmothers, farmers, ministers, school teachers, and many, many more of us from all walks of life.
And although we didn’t win we ran a historic effort that changed Wisconsin.
You know what, bigots? You don't get to punish loving people just to be mean, just because it makes you feel better to kick somebody else in the face. You don't get to feel better doing that. You don't get that free pass. You know what you just did? You riled up a whole lot of people, and those people work, and when you look at what we did with Congress in just about six months, you think really hard about what we're going to do to your entire "family values" smokescreen in the next two years. You think really hard about who you want to be on that morning when it all comes crashing down. Because we already know who we want to be.
Donate to make more cheeseheads less prejudiced.

Here's the face of hypocrisy & evil. & he's a ReThug.
The Rev. Ted Haggard, the former president of the National Association of Evangelicals and one of the nation’s most influential Christian leaders, has conceded that some of the accusations that led him to resign are true, a church official said today.

Another Chance
To do the right thing. I just received the following from a friend. Those of you from WISCO need to get this message out. We can show the rest of the country what it means to be an American, a free American. This sort of disgusting bullshit cannot be allowed to stand. Thanks in advance.
2006 is going to be different.
Click here to ContributeProgressive voices everywhere are speaking up and telling the extreme right we've had enough of their divisive politics. As I travel all over the country campaigning for progressive candidates I see that people are energized and standing up strong against the failure of Republican leadership.
This year, in my home state of Wisconsin, the right-wing has placed a proposed constitutional amendment banning civil unions and gay marriage on our ballot in November. Make no mistake, they placed this measure on the ballot in a brazen attempt to divide voters and push turnout for conservative candidates.
In just 60 days, we will make history and show them tactics like these won't work anymore.
Defeating this discriminatory amendment matters not just for Wisconsin but for our entire country. Conservative Republicans put similar measures like this one on the ballot in 20 states in 2004. Twenty states have now amended their constitutions in such a way that discriminates against thousands of gay families all across America.
This year it must and will be different.
I am proud to say that Fair Wisconsin has built a strong statewide grassroots campaign to educate Wisconsin voters and to once and for all defeat this divisive political tactic. I need you to stand with me today in support of their efforts by making a contribution of $250, $100 or $50 by going to Fair Wisconsin's website to donate. Your gift will instantly be used to mobilize and educate hundreds of thousands of voters on the real impacts of the proposed ban.
I am proud to stand with Fair Wisconsin and fight the proposed amendment in my home state. I believe we can win here in Wisconsin and make history by being the first state to defeat one of these hurtful amendments. I hope you will stand with us today. Not just because it's my home state but because it will demonstrate that the only way to beat the right wing isn't to compromise on our core values but to stand up and fight back.
Fight discrimination today by going to Fair Wisconsin's website to donate and help Wisconsin make history this November.
Sincerely,
Russ Feingold

Good For Brad
I began reading A River Runs Through It to Lucy this morning while I was feeding her. Marigny may have heard some of it, although The Kid kept cooing & stuff to her. Then I ran across this article in the Seattle Post Intelligencer. You go Brad.
Brad Pitt, ever the social activist, says he won't be marrying Angelina Jolie until the restrictions on who can marry whom are dropped. "Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able," the 42-year-old actor reveals in Esquire magazine's October issue, on newsstands Sept. 19.
