& read this interesting dog disease article. I always was under the impression that the Shar Pei had so many wrinkles because he/she was a fighting dog & the wrinkles made it difficult for the attacker to get a grip, a.k.a. big bite. The dog turns out to have been used as a guard dog/herding dog.
