A carefully constructed compromise on a draft law governing Iraq’s rich oil fields, agreed to in February after months of arduous talks among Iraqi political groups, appears to have collapsed. The apparent breakdown comes just as Congress and the White House are struggling to find evidence that there is progress toward reconciliation and a functioning government here.

This is maddening....
Every person who has paid attention to what is happening in Iraq...much the same as those who have actually STUDIED THE HISTORY of the region....knows that occupation is doomed to failure. Juan Cole has pointed out that occupations of the region failed even under Napoleon in Egypt...we know that the British found the region "unoccupiable" right after WWI....
The goal should have been (if you don't count not invading in the first place ) depose Saddam and get out...let the forces take hold themselves...
but nnooooooooooooo the Neocon had to go in and try and set up their model "free market petri dish" and screw up everything they touched....
But we're still buying the "Brooklyn Bridge" from these ...."people".
sheeeeesh!
