More March 13, 2006 Snow Pics

The deck & furniture had absolutely no snow last night.

A purple finch, cold edition.

36%

Why, oh, why, do some people keep supporting the moron Bu$hCo? It has to be a cult, there are no other reasons, well, maybe drugs or kool-aid.

"President Bush's 'approval rating' has sunk to a new low according to a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup poll released Monday.

The latest results show only 36% of those polled saying they 'approve' of the way Bush is handling his job. Bush's previous low was 37%, set last November."

On the other hand, how much longer will Bu$hCo be able to fool the country?

& This Is Wisco, Too

This is exactly what's happening in Wisco as well. Starve, then destroy. Such compassionate behavior from the ReThugs.

"Just call us Minnessippi or Mississota — whichever rings your bell."

Dumb

I sometimes wonder why I bother to keep my brain active. In the previous post I mentioned I was driving to town, about 17 miles north of where I live, to do a couple of hours of work. After it took me about 15 minutes to drive 5 miles, you would think that I would have some coffee, bacon & eggs with dark toast, read the paper (all this at the new & good anti-SueHank Martinsen cafe) & then turn around & drive home. But NO-oooo, I kept driving north. Needless-to-say, I should have just stayed home, popped a vike for my arthritis, & meditated online. It's 3 hours later & I'm wet, between sweating (it's about 31 degrees F.) & getting out of the truck a few time to beat the hell out of the wipers to clear them of slush, I'm about drenched. Got a fire going in furnace & now I'm just watching the snow fall & watching satellite TV, one of the Star Trek series, oh yeah, Deep Space 9. Here are some pics of our weather today.
Here's a pic of Ashland, WI this a.m. Blogger is giving me some problems with posting other pics. Will try to fix it & post some more. Later

Snow

It's snowing right now. We're supposed to get up to 14" of the stuff today. A bit more tomorrow. Right now about 2 inches have fallen. I've got to go to town today, a bit of work. Maybe I'll post some pics later. I'm not the only one around here who can take a picture, you know.

Easter Effing Bunny

Big rabbit. Via First Draft.

"On all paws, German Giant, named for the world’s largest rabbit breed, stands 17 inches tall. And standing on his hind feet, he’s more than three feet tall."

Buzz, Buzz, Buzz

Bees in short supply? Hardly seems possible.

The US is in danger of running out of honey bees to pollinate its almond crop - the country's number one horticultural export.

Right On

Molly Ivins has it correct. She's right, let's "organize the shit out of our side."

"Every Democrat I talk to is appalled at the sheer gutlessness and spinelessness of the Democratic performance. The party is still cringing at the thought of being called, ooh-ooh, “unpatriotic” by a bunch of rightwingers.

Take “unpatriotic” and shove it. How dare they do this to our country? “Unpatriotic”? These people have ruined the American military! Not to mention the economy, the middle class, and our reputation in the world. Everything they touch turns to dirt, including Medicare prescription drugs and hurricane relief.

This is not a time for a candidate who will offend no one; it is time for a candidate who takes clear stands and kicks ass."

Another Wisco Patriot

I've had my problems with Feingold, but as John Nichols told me one night in Ashland, WI, "you'll do the right thing in the voting booth, comrade." & he may well be right. Lately, Russ has done just about everything spot on. There is no more of this practiced maverick crap. Now he's shining in the best tradition of Wisco progressives. Thanks Sen. Feingold.
"The senator, Russell D. Feingold of Wisconsin, said, 'What the president did by consciously and intentionally violating the Constitution and laws of this country with this illegal wiretapping has to be answered.' He added, 'Proper accountability is a censuring of the president, saying, 'Mr. President, acknowledge that you broke the law, return to the law, return to our system of government.' '"

Don't Forget

We're winning, evidence from Reuters.
Via Atrios.
"A wave of sectarian violence since the bombing of a Shi'ite shrine on Feb. 22 has killed hundreds."

Random Holstein Facts

* 9 out of every 10 dairy farmers in this country milk Holstein cows.

* 19 million Holsteins are registered in the United States.

* 85% of the Holstein calves born are sired using AI

* One bull in the AI program can sire up to 50,000 daughters.

* Live Holstein cows and bulls and also frozen embryos and semen are exported to about 50 other countries.

* Approximately 95% of all dairy cattle milked today are purebred Holsteins or Holstein mixes.

*Markings: Blank and White markings on the body and head. (there are also red and white Holsteins, but they are not as common.) To be registered as a Holstein the legs must be white above the hooves and have white at the end of their tail. Black in either of these places indicates a mixed breed cow.
I wonder if the moral people of South Dakota object to all the dead baby Holsteins that are caused by electrical brownouts. Oh, the cowity, the dead embryos, served rare & then down the drain. Other than that, I do like dead Holstein or Angus or Swiss or Beefalo. & I do like it rare.
