I kid you not. I had cut out a whole bunch of elephant puzzles for the lovely & darling Twins, but they were up here visiting so I had no time to finish them. You know, this grandfather thing is exhausting, what with carrying them around the house, showing them off at The Black Cat Coffeehouse (yes, no WiFi yet, crap), the bakery, the local food coop, the only high school in town & the vet's office. The problem with elephants, as the wise & good-looking Dave at the recycling center said, "I've sort of lost my enthusiasm for elephants." He is a great Democrat, married to a great Democrat, & father to three great Democrats. Now y'all will understand. So, to celebrate Elephant Appreciation Day, albeit a day late, Mrs. coldH2O & I, along with The Twins & their manservant, the Son-in-Law & their Stenographer, The Kid, have send out 44 postcards to the spineless, gutless Democratic senators who voted to condemn MoveOn's truthful ad concerning Gen. Betray-us. We also sent in $22 apiece in your dishonor. The Mrs. & I are particularly disheartened by our Sen. Kohl's vote, & The Kid & The Son-in-Law, as well as The Twins are pissed about their Sen. Klobuchar's vote. You, my loyal four readers ought to do the same. You can go to The Dave Blog & download the postcard for printing. As usual, my admonition is accompanied by the obvious tenet that it will make you feel good.

DFHs Correct Again
Bite me. In a "very overt" kind of way.
First off, withdrawing the troops would be a rejection of Bush's leadership, and the GOP's leadership, and neither has "earned" anything except the disgust and hatred of the vast majority of the American people. Second, "we must not ever hurt the General's feelings!" as a rationale for anything is puerile and idiotic and a load of shit. General Petreaus is not our leader, and this is not his war. Nobody voted for him. And nobody's going to vote for anyone who wants to cower behind his uniform, either.
Americans apparently know basic civics a doucheload better than Senator Graham, and his party is going to learn this in 2008.
My emphasis.

Celine Dion Is Truly Awful

Only those with extremely strong stomachs or without eyes or ears should click this link. I could only watch about 30 seconds & I was puking off the deck, which according to Mrs. coldH2O is an improvement over peeing off the deck. Then there is this article in tomorrow's NYT. The best part of the article is this:
Midler is set to replace Celine Dion as a headline performer at Las Vegas's renovated Caesars Palace next year.

Just More Bullshit
Since Bu$hCo can no longer fool the voters, he, being The Decider, decided to circumvent the Congress once more time. The Decider, The Dictator.
President Bush has signed a directive that gives the White House much greater control over the rules and policy statements that the government develops to protect public health, safety, the environment, civil rights and privacy.

Asshole
Justice was a drowning victim in Bu$Co v. Gore. & Scalia is wrong. & what else is wrong is how the audience at Iona College laughed along with Scalia. What is wrong with these people. They must enjoy all the dead in Iraq, the loss of our civil liberties at home, & the dead & unreconstructed in New Orleans.

Just Great
Bu$hCo's war of choice, i.e., a war we didn't need, claimed TWENTY more American troops.
At least 20 American service personnel were killed in military operations Saturday in one of the deadliest days for U.S. forces since the
Iraq war began, and authorities also announced two U.S. combat deaths from the previous day
Oh, & he sleeps "...a lot better than people would assume." What an asshole.

Not Long At All
From TPM.
Yup, that didn't last long. The new era of "bipartisanship" in Washington ended promptly at 1:22 EST Thursday -- when the White House sent John Bolton's nomination as UN ambassador back to the Senate. After seeing the nomination fail twice before, the White House hopes to push Bolton through a lame-duck Senate before the Democratic majority takes office in January. As Steve Clemons noted, the White House made the move a mere 14 minutes after President Bush and Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi concluded their remarks to the press following a lunch meeting purportedly focused on how to work together. Thankfully, defeated Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee signaled that he would continue to oppose Bolton, dooming the nomination for a third time.
Meanwhile, it started to dawn on much of Washington that the President's nomination of Bob Gates to replace Don Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense would have to make it through a Democratic-controlled Senate, a prospect the President himself did not seem to be considering when he offered the job to Gates on the Sunday before the mid-term elections. Suddenly, the ghosts of the Iran-contra scandal had returned. As one TPM reader noted, "Who better to mend fences with a newly empowered Congress than someone whose claim to fame is involvement in a secret operation specifically forbidden by Congress?" -- TPM Reader D

Images, Images
Here's a good one.

I'm assuming y'all are up-to-date on the bullshit lies coming out of ABC's "movie" on 9/11. If not, go here & it'll get you up to speed.

This one's from Billmon & it's my favorite. If ABC doesn't cancel this Big Lie, The Twins won't be getting any of the Disney stuff that their mother got. In fact, I'm never going to Disneyland again, even if I do win the MVP of this year's Super Bowl.
Dropping Name
Dan Froomkin in today's WaPo. This is concerning the speech Bu$hCo gave yesterday.

Even a fool can figure out when she's in over her head. Even a fool wears a cool hat. I should know, I have one, bought for me a good looking blond while watching a Mardi Gras parade from Emeril's bleachers. A memorable moment in my life. Yeah, yeah, I get to drop a famous guy's name, but only because of the Kid.
But as part of this argument, Bush asserted: "The terrorists who want to harm America can now buy disposable cell phones, and open anonymous e-mail addresses. Our laws need to change to take these changes into account."
Some reporters related his words without pointing out that, as one expert explained to me yesterday, there's nothing in the White House-approved bill currently being debated on the Hill that even mentions disposable cell phones or anonymous e-mail.

You Missed Nothing, Josh
Josh Marshall has this to say about the no-shame whatsoever assministration, there, I said it. Here's the whole post.
Maybe I'm missing something. But President Bush's announcement today of the transfer fourteen accused terrorists from secret prisons abroad to Guantanamo Bay seems pretty elementary in terms of political strategy, no?
As we speculated last night, President Bush wants to gin up a hail mary pre-election political fight over the constitution (no pun intended) of military tribunals for accused terrorists. This election-timed stunt is intended to put fourteen faces on the president's fight over the rules for his kangaroo courts.
So now, you're either with Bush or you're with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
What am I missing exactly?
Remember: It's all about the politics.

Good Grief, Once Again
Condoleeza Rice hits a new low. Something I didn't believe was possible. Hanging around that Bu$hCo crowd has done its final damage. Here's Rice:
"I'm sure there are people who thought it was a mistake to fight the Civil War to its end and to insist that the emancipation of slaves would hold," Rice said in the new issue of Essence magazine.
"I know there were people who said, 'Why don't we get out of this now, take a peace with the South, but leave the South with slaves?'" Rice said.
Jesus Christ, who's responsible for this clear lack of an education. I thought she was some sort of historian, or something. Stanford University must be so proud.

Stupid Wisconsin ReThugs
Another reason to be embarassed by the idiots running the legislature. How did this happen in a state that has such a great history in terms of public employees? I hate these bastards.
Robert Carpick, an associate engineering physics professor and nanotechnology researcher who has generated $3.4 million in external grants since joining UW-Madison in 2000, informed his boss and colleagues of his decision earlier this summer. He told them the absence of the benefits and the Legislature's push to ban gay marriage were behind his decision to take a job at the University of Pennsylvania. Penn offers same-sex benefits, as do all of the Big 10 universities except Wisconsin.
....
Sen. Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau), co-chairman of the Joint Finance Committee, said as long as it was dominated by Republicans, the Legislature would never authorize the benefits. Some oppose them on moral grounds, he said, believing that benefits should go only to married couples and that marriage should be limited to heterosexual couples.
This is the face of evil in the Wisconsin legislature.

From The Heights Of The Sublime
To this shit from Rummy the Rummy. what planet are these criminals from? The twins have a lot of work ahead of them.
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday the world faces ''a new type of fascism'' and likened critics of the U.S. war strategy to those who tried to appease the Nazis.
In unusually explicit terms, Rumsfeld portrayed the Bush administration's critics as suffering from ''moral or intellectual confusion'' about what threatens the nation's security. His remarks amounted to one of his most pointed defenses of President Bush's war policies and was among his toughest attacks on the president's critics.
What a son-of-a-bitching low-life bastard. But I'm not too upset, I did not use any unecessary captital letters. Good on me.
