Random Holstein Facts

* 9 out of every 10 dairy farmers in this country milk Holstein cows.

* 19 million Holsteins are registered in the United States.

* 85% of the Holstein calves born are sired using AI

* One bull in the AI program can sire up to 50,000 daughters.

* Live Holstein cows and bulls and also frozen embryos and semen are exported to about 50 other countries.

* Approximately 95% of all dairy cattle milked today are purebred Holsteins or Holstein mixes.

*Markings: Blank and White markings on the body and head. (there are also red and white Holsteins, but they are not as common.) To be registered as a Holstein the legs must be white above the hooves and have white at the end of their tail. Black in either of these places indicates a mixed breed cow.
I wonder if the moral people of South Dakota object to all the dead baby Holsteins that are caused by electrical brownouts. Oh, the cowity, the dead embryos, served rare & then down the drain. Other than that, I do like dead Holstein or Angus or Swiss or Beefalo. & I do like it rare.
