The local ABC channel has these details. I suppose I feel sorry for Julie Moravchik, but we all knew this would happen, she's was trying to make honest people out of SueHank. They are, in my opinion, beyond redemption.
The local television station in Ashland is going through big changes. The majority of employees who work at True North TV have been fired, in a dispute with management. It started Tuesday, when the general manager was let go. Nine employees were fired Tuesday when they refused to work unless the GM was not (sic) rehired. The GM, who was also the news director, is former WDIO reporter Julie Moravchik. Neither side is saying exactly what lead to the firing, but the five-month-old station was dealing with budget issues. Employees were seen leaving the station with boxes full of their things on Wednesday. Many had been recruited by Moravchik who helped get the station off the ground in December. "This was Julie's dream this was our dream it's sad today," said Melissa Ganje, a former anchor. Following that dream, nine newsroom employees signed a petition saying they would not put on a newscast unless Moravchik was rehired. They were then handed a termination notice. "I couldn't believe it, I'm just waiting to wake up from this strange dream," said Dan Fitzpatrick, a former photojournalist. Two other employees also quit on Tuesday and Wednesday. The chief photojournalist was also fired on Tuesday. The owner of the station, Jessica Nuutinen said she could not get into the details why Moravchik was let go. Moravchik said one of their differences was the budget. "I started to see our management styles were going in different directions and out philosophies were different and it appears that was the reason I was let go," she said. As for the future of the station. Nuutinen released this statement: "True North TV will continue to operate as Northwestern Wisconsin's only local news station, providing Wisconsin news, weather, and sports. We look forward to our growing expansion in the Northwestern Wisconsin/Northeastern Michigan viewing areas." She says they'll bring in a new team and get the job done with the few remaining employees. On Thursday, Governor Jim Doyle planned to be in Ashland, to declare the day in honor of True North TV. A press release was sent out by the Governor's Office saying he would not make the trip; instead he'll be in Hurley and Superior for other events.
& notice that SueHank again has his daughter, the aforementioned Jessica Nuutinen, as the hatchet woman. In fact, in a previous incident, SueHank didn't fire an employee, he had Jim Scott do the dirty work. Why can't SueHank do the work? Why stick his daughter out there? Quite a set of parents. &, on another media note, what's happening with Crime Central, aka, The Sounder?
UPDATE: Here's more from a Duluth, MN, paper.
WAST-TV, Channel 25, a low-power UPN station in Ashland, has an uprising on its hands.

Do we have a new Leona Helmsley in our midst?
I grew up with Hank and hate to see what money and power has done to the family. I think the Martinsen kingdom is like roots on a silver maple, they go all over. If you think about it, many people have "invested" with the family, so Hank is also a talking head for others also, just like the talking head he has sitting on the city council. Could it be the Sounder has become entangled in the root system also?
Interesting.
I know all the names but none of the background; guess I should be paying more attention to what goes on across the bay.
I do like those murals, though- mostly.
