It's The Kid's Birthday

The best thing about having a kid is that someday you become friends & can drink gin & tonics in New Orleans in the warm rain with them. Today is The Kids' 31st birthday. Hope The Babies & Dada made every meal a breakfast in bed. I, for one, love you. Thanks, kiddo.

Another Great Victory Over Islamic Terrorists!

Well, as usual, not really. I don't know about y'all, but this sort of thing is getting really old. It sure makes our police & judicial system look very rinky-dink, not to mention them being great fabricators.
...the entire plot is revealed to have been cooked up by a scummy government agent-provocateur.
****
Preying on these losers, none of whom were apparently actual Muslims, the "confidential informant" orchestrated the acquisition of a disabled Stinger missile to shoot down military planes and cooked up a wild scheme about attacking a Jewish center in the Bronx.
****
But it seems that the informant whipped up their violent tendencies and their hatred of Jews, cooked up the plot, incited them, arranged their purchase of weapons, and then had them busted.

Hate Milk?

When things like this happen in a consistent manner, you bet I hate milk.

"...Music, Sweet Music...."

ReThugs dropping fast. Harold Myerson has the documentation. Tidbits from the piece:
...Americans who answer to the name Republican is down to 22 percent....
****
Cheney has become the GOP's Banquo's ghost -- a constant reminder (and, unlike poor Banquo, defender) of past crimes who just won't leave the dinner party.
****
They offer no solutions for the nation's problems but are chock-full of solutions for issues (such as the lack of concealed weapons in Yellowstone) that aren't problems.

I Could Never Understand The Game

http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/product_images/C8390r.jpg

My mother played every week. The results were interesting in that the gossip quotient went up or down given who was sitting in as a replacement. While I'm sure keeping track of the cards, bids, dummy, etc., has a positive effect on the brain, I also wonder whether the social activity, the social language used, the after the game sitting with relatives snark, also had a positive effect on not becoming demented?

ReThugs Having Trouble In Their Home (Only) Territory

Here are some numbers for you to chew on, this Wednesday night. It's my 60th birthday night, bitches, & I'm going to, well, stay home & change the bandage on my appendix incision - a pretty ugly hole in my stomach. It's a hole because the damn organ/non-organ ruptured as it was being removed & therefore it has to heal from the inside out. OK, I'll continue with the metaphor & state the the ridiculous, dangerous ReThug Party is an ugly hole in the belly of America.

The Party That Could Shoot Straight

Via RLK, we find out that the ReThugs, the party of guns, hatred, & money, are lousy shooters. This is only somewhat surprising since Democrats believe in practice & study in order to earn ability to shoot well. ReThugs, on the other hand, believe that they deserve it because they usually can just buy it, or, they accuse the Democrats of being Commie sharpshooters trained by Al-Queda in Somalia, thus tainting the Democrats clear victory. The Democrats then bend over & mumble, rather than standing up & laughing at the ReThugs, or, at least, giving them the finger.

About Time

Via The Kid, we get an article in the Strib that is about 70 years late. I don't know about you, but the North Dakota Fighting Flickertails has a nice ring to it, no? They wouldn't have to invent a new tradition with this name, they just have to reclaim an old tradition. Racism must die in this world & this will be one more small step toward that goal.

Spineless

Come on Harry Reid, do your fucking job. Why does the Democratic leadership always fail on the really important matters? I guess it's just one big club in Washington, values are apparently, passè.

Accountability

Those pesky "left wing advocacy groups", can't they just follow the lead of Congress & shut up? Instead of doing what Congress or the Justice Dept. should be doing, these organizations are working hard for accountability. I wish they were working hard for people's health, welfare, mortgages, you name it.

Your Daily Science

Rain beetles, California style.

Creepy?

I suppose, but why is anyone surprised by this? The good news (pun completely intended) is that this brings us much closer to a truth-letting. & here's an added tidbit from the link.
In a highly unusual reversal, the Defense Department’s inspector general’s office has withdrawn a report it issued in January exonerating a Pentagon public relations program that made extensive use of retired officers who worked as military analysts for television and radio networks.

Donald M. Horstman, the Pentagon’s deputy inspector general for policy and oversight, said in a memorandum released on Tuesday that the report was so riddled with flaws and inaccuracies that none of its conclusions could be relied upon. In addition to repudiating its own report, the inspector general’s office took the additional step of removing the report from its Web site.

I Think My Missing Appendix Was Really Bad For Small Businesses

& I'll bet my daughter's marriage, to a man, no less, is also bad for business. Keep Steele on the payroll ReThugs, he's really helping y'all climb out of the small, regional (Southern) party you've become.

Bye-Bye

There will be more corporate/municipal tears shed for the dealers, than for the workers.

Back From The Troubles On The Surgical Tables

Short & sweet- last Thursday I had an endoscopy to check on how the Dieulafoy's Lesion was doing in my stomach. My INR was inexplicably high )4.1) so she could not biopsy the bit of ulcerated material that was still there. She did find a "seeper" in an another part of my stomach but attributed that to the high INR. She zapped that with an epi, pulled the scope & sent me on my merry way. Mrs. coldH2Owi & I had dinner, did some shopping, & then drove home. My stomach was feeling a bit off, but nothing big. I managed to not sleep at all that night & by the a.m. had full-blown stomach pain. Of course, I assumed that I had bled again in the stomach, like a couple of months ago, but no, it couldn't be that rational. I had to have my appendix removed. Jesus Tits! Talk about a surprise. Or as one friend said, "What are you, 12?"

Back to the post - when corporate America appears to be acting in the public's interest, it will only go so far.
So ConAgra — which sold more than 100 million pot pies last year under its popular Banquet label — decided to make the consumer responsible for the kill step.
Yup, you're right, the old blame the consumer ruse. Consumer responsibility equals consumer fault. It would be nice if someone mentioned to ConAgra that the Democrats won. On second thought, someone probably has done that.

GOP Core Values

I surely hope Wisco's municipalities sensibly address A.J. Van Hollens's core GOP values before  more people dead on the streets of our state.

Here's one way:

Apparently, There Is A Limit To Southern Hospitality

I do not get haircuts anymore, so I guess I'm not affected.

I Just Don't Understand

How diaper-boy Vitter (R-Coleman Asshat) is allowed any power at all in these matters, or frankly, any matters. It is situtations like this that make the world's greatest deliberative body look like a bunch of clowns. Come on, Senators, you should have thrown Vitter out of your august body, since you didn't have the nuts to do that, at least get him out of the way on this FEMA nominations.

God I Hate Snowmobile Users

This notion that humans on snowmobiles are more important than lynx is just infuriating. & yes, it's true that I have boycotted ice fishing for several years now because Mrs. coldH2Owi has cruelly refused to add a snowmobile or 4-wheeler to our list of insurable possessions.

In Deference To The Young Of The Drummond School

No baloney sausage, Dick Tracey. If these right-wingers would just stop & think for a moment, wouldn't they suddenly understand what freedom really meant?  I understand "right-wingers" & "think" are not compatible, but come on.

Good

The state of Maine does the right thing. Now it's time for Maine's two ReThug senators to switch to the Democratic Party. Hopefully, the next election will toss one out if she doesn't change.

Blind Justice?

Not so much.

AG: Justice Department Committed to “Core GOP Principles”

5/5/09 - As the only major state office who is Republican, Attorney General JB Van Hollen says the justice department remains committed to "core Republican principles." He points to areas like fiscal responsibility, which includes going after people and businesses that rip off the government. He says they've collected tens of millions of dollars more in fraudulent restitution each year than his predecessor. Van Hollen says the DOJ was the only state agency during his first two-year budget to return money – 1-point-2 million dollars. The AG says it's due in large part to productivity and efficiency at the state crime lab, which is about to be the first in over 20 years to rid the backlog of DNA evidence.

Sorry, Pete

Pete Seeger is 90 years old. Yesterday was his birthday. Back when I was a sallow youth, I went to see Pete Seeger at the Ag Hall. It was, of course, wonderful. & we did hear this song:

Pete Seeger: Waist Deep in the Big Muddy

I love this song & it's meant a lot to me over the years.  & Pete Seeger's 90 years old,wow - I hope you had a great one you radical, you.  He would be a great role model for anybody.

Bad Plants

Two more reasons why non-indigenous plants are so successful. & silver maples are the suckiest of the invaders.

Souter Goes Home To New Hampshire

Justice Souter is retiring. He was a good guy & apparently a smart guy as well, since he is retiring at a relatively young age. I am so glad that he actually did the right thing(s) while serving as a Supreme Court Justice. It was also a lot of fun watching him poke a stick in the Bu$hCo family's eye over & over again. He'll be missed.

1st

After all these years we get Carol Ann Duffy.
