"Enough self-aggrandizing trumpet-blowing. OK, Scott, What Happened?"

McClatchy has a blog.
Until now, we've resisted the temptation to post on former White House press secretary Scott McClellan's new book, which accuses the Bush White House of launching a propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq.

Why? It's not news. At least not to some of us who've covered the story from the start.

Good Quote

From Uppity Wisconsin.
"Every nation has its war party. It is not the party of democracy. It is the party of autocracy. It seeks to dominate absolutely. It is commercial, imperialistic, ruthless. It tolerates no opposition. It is just as arrogant, just as despotic, in London, or in Washington, as in Berlin. The American Jingo is twin to the German Junker…. If there is no sufficient reason for war, the war party will make war on one pretext, then invent another."

Another Great Reason For A 60

This clueless bastard was the Democratic Party's Vice-Presidential nominee 8 years ago. I do blame Al Gore for this. It's only one thing Al, don't get all zuzu on me. How Joementum could even think about appearing at the fat fascist's gathering is beyond me. Didn't Hagee say Hitler hunted Jews in order to drive them back to Israel so the Apocalypse would begin & his stupid family would be jettisoned off to somewhere? Yes, I believe he did say that & yet observant Joe Lieberman is going to give Hagee a big old kiss on the mouth for that. Jeez Louise, the Dems need to do a much better job of vetting their candidates.

The Stooopid, It Burns

Cool

I've always been a fan of space exploration. & while it is costly, it isn't as costly as Bu$hCo's vanity war. For those of us old enough, remember how wonderfully fun it was to listen to Kennedy vow to get to the moon? I realize that there was plenty wrong in the 60s (Vietnam, Selma, MLK murdered, Bobby Kennedy murdered, Malcolm X, etc.), but the notion of space exploration & travel really caught my imagination. It's too bad that it was put on the back burner, a burner in need of replacement, no less. It was inspiring, something that has become a bad thing among certain progressive bloggers. It's quite the joke that these folks see themselves as flinty, hard-bitten realists, & those who find a man who can attract 75,000 people to a speech in Oregon are pie-in-the-sky dreamers. Well, Bu$hCo has won, up is now down.

This is Mars. Where are the Martians?

More Bad News For Trout

Looks like global warming is beginning to impact the western U.S. in a negative way for trout anglers. What's really too bad is that Dick "Sick Dick" Cheney, a supposedly avid fly angler, just doesn't give a flying fuck about the fish. Let the free market make these fish extinct, so? It's more important to kill people in Bu$hCo's vanity war.

About Right

But there is one sense in which her campaign, at least, bears some responsibility for her current straits. Clinton operatives behind the scenes have been smearing Obama as a Muslim, and it was they who dug up that photo of him in Kenyan clothes. Clinton even said Obama was not a Muslim "as far as I know." The malice demonstrated in those actions laid the groundwork for people to believe that Clinton was capable of such hostility toward Obama.

The incident, it seems to me, does tell us two other things.

The first is that the strategy of the Clinton camp, of continuing to campaign even after victory at the polls became numerically impossible--in hopes that Obama might stumble and alienate sufficient numbers of superdelegates--was not crazy. I don't approve of it, but that it could work or could have worked seems clear. It could easily have been Obama who stumbled yesterday. Ironically, it was Clinton.

The second thing the incident tells us is how traumatized the nation still is by those horrible killings 40 years ago, and how much unfinished business of healing those wounds there is. Hillary didn't mean to pick at the scab. But she did. And we bled a little, all over again.

For Fuck's Sake

What is it with the ReThugs & their obsession with sex & food? This is just pathetic. If Bu$hCo's FBI thinks you "have the look", you're probably doomed. What, no one noticed Men In Black looked like Men In Black?
“She told me that I had the perfect ‘look,’” recalls Carroll. “And that I had the perfect personality—they kept saying I was friendly and personable—for what they were looking for.”

What they were looking for, Carroll says, was an informant—someone to show up at “vegan potlucks” throughout the Twin Cities and rub shoulders with RNC protestors, schmoozing his way into their inner circles, then reporting back to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, a partnership between multiple federal agencies and state and local law enforcement. The effort’s primary mission, according to the Minneapolis division’s website, is to “investigate terrorist acts carried out by groups or organizations which fall within the definition of terrorist groups as set forth in the current United States Attorney General Guidelines.”

I have to say that vegans are probably tough terrorists, after all, I can't get any kind of meat at my local coffee shop, well, I can get some wild, Lake Superior whitefish pieces in a bisque on Thursdays, but no sausage on pizza, & no cheeseburgers. Bu$hCo's last answer in an interview with Mona Shazli, Dream TV, in Egypt.
Q You will be in the region very soon -- Israel, Saudi Arabia, then Egypt. The question is, maybe there are 250 million Arabs who think that President Bush has added to their suffering and problems during his administration. How would you adjudicate this?

THE PRESIDENT: I would just ask them to wait for history to answer the question. There's an advent of a young democracy in Iraq. Ask those people what it's like to live under a freer society, rather than the thumb of a tyrant or a dictator; or the people that we're trying to help in Lebanon by getting the Syrians out through a U.N. Security Council resolution; or the Palestinians who -- for whom I've articulated a state.

In other words, I understand people's opinions. All I ask is that when history is finally recorded, judge whether or not I've been a contributor to peace or not.
Q Do you think history will be in your side?

THE PRESIDENT: I think history will say George Bush clearly saw the threats that keep the Middle East in turmoil, and was willing to do something about it, was willing to lead, and had this great faith in the capacity of democracies and great faith in the capacity of people to decide the fate of their countries; and that the democracy movement gained impetus and gained movement in the Middle East. Yeah, I think people will say, he had a difficult set of circumstances to deal with, and he dealt with them, with a sense of idealism.

Idealism? I don't think he knows the meaning or the philosphy behind the word. What a fool.

John McCain dropped a little-noticed bombshell into his March foreign-policy address: Boot Russia from the G-8, the elite club of leading industrial democracies whose leaders try to coordinate economic policies.

One major problem: He can't do it because the other G-8 nations won't let him.

But the fact that he's proposing to try, risking a return to Cold War tensions with the world's second-largest nuclear power after 20 years of prickly partnership, raises questions about McCain's judgment.

What judgment? My emphasis.

What's Really In Our Nation's Interest?

Someday I'd like to write a long post about what's in America's interest throughout the world. Someday. Today, however, I'd suggest that this is way more important than Iraq. But what do I know? Bu$hCo would rather kill people than help people. What a great country.
Five days after the powerful cyclone struck, this city, Myanmar’s commercial capital and until Saturday a verdant oasis of wide avenues, is far from back to normal.

Thousands of trees lie where they fell, jetties on the Yangon River have collapsed into the water and only a few traffic lights are working across the city of five million people.

Most of Yangon remains without electricity and even the local branch of the Ministry of Energy has no power.

The death toll in Yangon has been small compared with the devastation in the delta of the Irrawaddy River. The government counts fewer than 400 people killed here compared with the more than 22,000, and by some unofficial estimates possibly tens of thousands more, dead over all in Myanmar since the huge cyclone hit on Saturday.

But the inability of the government to clear debris and restore basic utilities like water and power in what is the country’s wealthiest city are a measure of how difficult Myanmar’s overall disaster recovery could be.

The answer is, apparently, blowing in the wind.
In another town, Labutta, which has virtually no food or fresh water, the flood waters have begun to recede, revealing rotting, bloated bodies, both human and animal, which have left a stench hanging over the town.

A distraught elderly woman in Kungyangon, lost 18 relatives who lived in a nearby coastal village.

Only three children at boarding school survived. “The whole village was destroyed,” she wailed as she pawed at their photographs and wept inconsolably.

Look familiar? It should. Here's New Orleans.

http://blogs.trb.com/news/politics/blog/katrina-new-orleans-flooding3-2005.jpg

& Bu$hCo's pathetic initial response ought not surprise anyone. Plus the arrogance of unilateral on-site inspections.
He said the United States was looking at ways to augment an initial emergency contribution of $250,000 to the United Nations and other international relief agencies, but noted the process would be easier if U.S. experts were allowed to make onsite inspections.
Easier for whom?

Let's Get Drunk & Screw

Those ReThugs, they're such party animals, not that there's anything wrong with that. &, believe it or not, his first name is Vito. So much for it just being business. Will there be anyone left to proudly claim to be a ReThuglican?

Finally

Something from Shakespeare's Sister that not about good boobs & my bad penis.

Another Reason To Not Support Sen. Clinton

This is from a pro-Clinton blog that I will not link to since I think they are fucking out of their minds. Read this & weep. I'm going to make a large assumption & say this is a young person, more the sadness for this once great country. Don't ya just love the "zzzs"?
Whether the RULZ were violated or not makes not a whit of difference. The voters of Florida and Michigan are the innocent victims of this. PLUS, there was nothing in the RULZ that said there needed to be a penalty at all. Yep. The Rules and Bylaws committee could have granted them a waiver or penalized them for the next primary season or cut their delegations by half or even, and this sounds really radical, penalized NH, IA, and SC for moving up their primaries by applying the same harsh zero tolerance policy. They did nothing of the kind. Instead, they have decided to lose the election this fall. I’m not sure you are grasping the enormity of this situation. I think you may still be in the grips of an emotional reposnse to everything Clinton. And you and thousands of Democrats like you who are unable to see how greviously you are deluded will have to be brought to a conscious state by drastic action. We are going nuclear on the party in order to try and save it from itself. We are not going to behave like indulgent parents and give into its demands no matter how bad they are for it. Now, you may not like it and it might cause you stress and sleepless nights but there you are. Come to your senses now or suffer the consequences in November. your(sic) choice.

My emphasis.

STRIKE! for peace. There is something about the west coast longshoreman that I really love.

We've Won The War

I guess.
...killing at least 35 people and wounding at least 62 others, many of them seriously.

How do you get injured by a bomb & not have it be serious? Just asking.

The Worst President Ever

From CNN.
"No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president's disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

This Is Another Reason Why John McCain (McSame, McLiar) Should Not Be President

What a son-of-a-bitch. What an idiot. What a cold asshole.

Good For REI

Yes, I'm a member. Nonetheless, this is a positive health move. Let's hope the bottles that are removed don't end up in dollar stores across the U.S. or in poor countries around the world.
